About Me

It wasn’t until around 2015 that I began creative writing in a ‘serious’ way.

I have always been creative—right-side-of-the-brained—specialising in Art throughout my education and early career, teaching art in further education and custodial environments, and my main hobby since a late teen was always music; I played bass and sang in cover bands. But I stopped all creative endeavours for several years.

My creative hemisphere was clearly malnourished, as one day, almost as though waking to an epiphany, I was suddenly inspired to put pen to paper.

I embraced this newfound passion and spent virtually every waking moment writing—lunch breaks, weekends, and rest days. I pursued learning online and also enrolled on local creative writing courses and workshops.

An idea that had come to me several years before, slowly germinating in my imagination, became prominent and clear. It wouldn’t let go, it wouldn’t shut up, it demanded all my attention—I knew I needed write it and complete it. That idea was what is now my debut novel, Ella’s Ghost

I had many other story ideas that currently exist in the form of hand-written narrative in note books, and scenes that play out in my mind; they patiently wait for their moment to shine. I continue to learn and (hopefully) improve my skills, and gain confidence as a writer. I can’t wait to share my stories with the world, and I hope to be worthy of my readers’ time.

Sarah was born in the Shetland Islands and grew up in Cambridgeshire.

After gaining a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire, she settled in west London, becoming a print technician in an FE college and an art teacher in various custodial environments such as immigration centres and prisons. Her career path changed when she took on a practical role within police custody.

As well as creative writing, Sarah regularly performs at local festivals and pubs and private functions as a bassist/singer for a rock covers band.

She now lives in Berkshire, UK.
